D2L Gradebook has the option of allowing for dropping the highest or lowest grades in a category of grade items.

To set it up, the grade items for dropping highest or lowest grades should be organized under a grade category. You may set this up in either a weighted system or a point system. E.g. Create an Assigment Category and move all the assignments in the category.

Go to the property of the Category. Check the option "To spread the Grades evenly" in the category. Then put in the number of lowest grade or highest grade items to be dropped. Then Save.

It is better to set this up at the end of the semester before Final Grades are calculated rather than the beginning of semester. This will help improve performance of the Gradebook display with less comparison and calculation. This will also give a more accurate picture of the the grades when all grades are in.
